{"id":2397,"date":"2012-03-21T15:01:11","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T20:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/middleofsomewhere.com\/?p=2397"},"modified":"2012-03-22T15:37:58","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T20:37:58","slug":"2012-trip-were-going-to-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/middleofsomewhere.com\/?p=2397","title":{"rendered":"2012 Trip: We&#8217;re Going to California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOS Adventurers-<\/p>\n<p>We now have dates and a tenative location for our 2012 trip!\u00c2\u00a0 Exact location will be finalized a bit later, but we will be backpacking for 3 days, over the weekend of September 8-9, in northern California.\u00c2\u00a0 Current tenative locale is going to be either the Desolation or the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness Area, just west of Lake Tahoe.\u00c2\u00a0 But we are also looking at other nearby areas, including Granite Chief, Yosemite, Ansel Adams and John Muir.<\/p>\n<p>Details&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>WHAT: 3 Days and 2 nights backpacking in mountainous wilderness<\/p>\n<p>WHERE: Carson-Iceberg or Desoltion Wilderness Area, California<\/p>\n<p>WHEN: September 6-10, 2012<\/p>\n<p>WHO: Group size limited to 10 people, currently 8 open slots<\/p>\n<p>HOW MUCH: About $300-$350 per\u00c2\u00a0person, plus airfare to the\u00c2\u00a0area if needed, includes permits, group food and camping supplies, group meals, hotel night(s), group gear, vehicle rentals and gas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wilderness.net\/index.cfm?fuse=NWPS&amp;sec=wildView&amp;WID=155\">Desolation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wilderness.net\/index.cfm?fuse=NWPS&amp;sec=wildView&amp;WID=102\">Carson-Iceberg<\/a> present some of the most beautiful and dramatic scenery in the High Sierras.\u00c2\u00a0 Both areas have well-maintained trail systems leading to countless glacial tarns (lakes), waterfalls, lush meadows and dense forests for endless exploration.\u00c2\u00a0 Altitudes range from 5,000&#8242; to 12,000&#8242; ASL, passing through numerous biomes and climates.\u00c2\u00a0 Desolation is heavily visited, but has some particularly spectacular vistas and lakes.\u00c2\u00a0 Carson-Iceberg provides more lush vegetation and more opportunity for seclusion.<\/p>\n<p>This trip will work like other long-weekend hauls that MOS has done recently.\u00c2\u00a0 Day 1 is a travel day, everyoone arriving in the Bay Area, acquiring supplies, and staging up near the wilderness.\u00c2\u00a0 Days 2 through 4 are backpacking in the wilderness.\u00c2\u00a0 The end of Day 4 is the traditional hotel\/drinks\/hot tub wind-down, and Day 5 we all go back to our &#8220;normal&#8221;
